Exploring the role of wetland restoration in reducing drought impacts at NBS4Drought showcase sites.
Content
Wetlands play a critical role in storing water, regulating flows, and supporting biodiversity. Across the seven NBS4Drought showcase sites, researchers are monitoring how restored and protected wetland areas contribute to drought resilience. From urban wetlands in Aarhus to protected landscapes in Polesie National Park, each site offers a unique perspective on nature-based solutions. Early monitoring data suggests that well-managed wetlands can buffer drought impacts by maintaining soil moisture and supporting groundwater recharge. This article introduces the cross-site monitoring approach and highlights initial findings from hydrological and biodiversity modules.
